Longhorns in the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational
- Texas fell to 7-5 all-time in the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational with its 59-53 overtime loss to USC on Tuesday. This will mark the first time in four appearances on the island that the Horns will not return to the mainland with at least two victories.
Series vs. Mississippi State
- Wednesday's contest marks the eighth between Texas and Mississippi State on the hardwood. Texas holds a 4-3 lead in the all-time series that dates back to a 93-82 UT victory on Dec. 30, 1960 in Houston.
- The Longhorns enter Wednesday's game with a perfect 3-0 mark in neutral-site contests against the Bulldogs. In addition to the win in the first meeting in Houston between the two teams, Texas also recorded an 81-77 victory in the opening round of the Outrigger Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii on Dec. 28, 1998 (Rick Barnes' first season at UT). The Horns added a 68-64 win against No. 17 Mississippi State in a NCAA Tournament Second Round game in Dallas on March 17, 2002.
Series Flashback
- The last meeting between the two teams proved to be one of the 'shining moments' in the Rick Barnes era at Texas. The sixth-seeded Longhorns posted a 68-64 upset of third-seeded Mississippi State before a pro-UT crowd at American Airlines Center in Dallas. Royal Ivey sealed the victory by hitting a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to send the Longhorns to the "Sweet 16" for the first time under Barnes. Texas was led by a then-freshman point guard by the name of T.J. Ford, who would go on to earn National Player of the Year honors the following season (2002-03) while leading the Longhorns to the Final Four.
