Durant, Team USA set for Olympic Games

LONDON -- Former University of Texas standout Kevin Durant and the United States Men's Olympic Team have arrived in London and are set to begin competition in the 2012 Olympic Games. The men's basketball competition will feature national teams from 12 countries competing July 29-Aug. 12.
During Team USA's five-game exhibition schedule leading up to the Olympics, Durant led the team in rebounding (5.0 rpg) and minutes (26.0 mpg) and ranked second in scoring (17.6 ppg). He converted 34-of-59 (.576) field goals, including 16-of-29 (.552) from the international three-point line.
Team USA is joined in Preliminary Round Pool A by Argentina, France, Lithuania, Nigeria and Tunisia. Pool B features Australia, Brazil, China, Great Britain, Russia and Spain.
The USA opens its Olympic competition against France at 8:30 a.m. Central (2:30 p.m. in London) on Sunday, July 29. The Americans then face Tunisia at 4:15 p.m. Central on Tuesday, July 31 and Nigeria at 4:15 p.m. Central on Thursday, Aug. 2. Team USA meets Lithuania at 8:30 a.m. Central on Saturday, Aug. 4 before concluding preliminary round play against Argentina at 4:15 p.m. Central on Monday, Aug. 6.
The top four teams from each Olympic preliminary round group will advance to the Aug. 8 quarterfinals, with the winners playing in the semifinals on Aug. 10 and the medal games on Aug. 12.
Durant will become the fourth player in Texas Basketball history to compete in the Olympics and the first since Albert Almanza represented Mexico in 1964. Durant also will be the third former Longhorn in the sport of Men's Basketball to compete for the United States in Olympic competition and first since Jay Arnette in 1960.
