UT Athletics hosts the fourth annual UT & Me Expo Saturday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. Central on the concourse of the Frank Erwin Center prior to the Women's Basketball game vs. Kansas State at 1 p.m. This event is in celebration of the 27th National Girls and Women in Sports Day which takes place on Feb. 6.
UT & Me is dedicated to empowering young girls to be active in school, sports, and life. Representatives from numerous girls youth organizations around the Central Texas community, including organizations at the University of Texas, come together to celebrate the achievement of girls and women in sports. They also energize girls with the confidence and courage it takes to reach their goals and achieve their greatest potential. This event allows girls and their families the time to collect information and resources from campus and community organizations and learn about the endless opportunities the future holds. This year's participants include community organizations GENaustin, Girl Scouts of Central Texas, and Girl's Inc. of Greater Austin. Texas Athletics will be represented by Texas Cheer and Pom, UT Strength & Conditioning, UT Sports Medicine, Rowing, Soccer, Softball, and the 2012 NCAA Champion Volleyball team.
Young fans can receive materials about youth organization as well as the opportunity to interact with the UT Women's Athletics teams in attendance. Student-athletes on hand will be teaching basic skills from their sports and offering advice on pursuing a future in athletics.
