HOUSTON - Julien Lewis scored a career-high 25 points, but Texas lost to Houston, 73-71, in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational on Wednesday night in Hofheinz Pavilion.
Lewis went 10-of-19 from the floor to lead the Longhorns in scoring for the third consecutive game. In the last three games, the Houston native has averaged 19.0 points.
Freshman Prince Ibeh recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in just 23 minutes of action.
Houston (20-12) featured four players in double-figure points, led by Joseph Young's 18 points and four 3-pointers.
The Longhorns recovered from a six-point halftime deficit by taking a 53-47 lead with 9:33 remaining in regulation - UT's largest lead of the game. The last of 14 lead changes was Danuel House's jumper with 17 seconds remaining to give the Cougars a 73-72 go-ahead lead.
Texas concludes the season with a 16-18 record. The Longhorns made their 35th all-time postseason appearance and first in the College Basketball Invitational. It was UT's first non-NCAA postseason game since 1986.
