Senior David Holiner advances to semifinals of Maccabiah Games; junior Lloyd Glasspool wins fourth consecutive match in Denmark.

JERUSALEM - University of Texas rising senior David Holiner ended his run at the Maccabiah Games in Israel after advancing to the semifinals of singles draw and the quarterfinals of the doubles draw. As the No. 11 seed in the singles draw, Holiner finished competition with a 3-1 record, including a win over No. 2 seed Dekel Bar (Israel). The 2013 ITA All-American teamed with Joshua Albert, a UC-Davis graduate, as the No. 7 seed in the doubles draw. After sweeping their first match in the round of 16 (6-0, 6-0), the duo lost to top-seeded Dekal Bar and Dor Belfer (Israel) in the quarterfinals on July 25.

AARHUS, Denmark - University of Texas rising junior Lloyd Glasspool won five consecutive singles matches on a clay surface at the ITF Denmark F2 Futures, ending his run in the semifinals of the event. Glasspool (Great Britain) won two matches in straight sets to qualify for the main draw. The 2013 Big 12 Champion at No. 2 singles advanced to the semifinals of the main draw with wins over Christian Hirschmueller (Germany), No. 8 seed Jerome Inzerillo (Frace) and Joachim Bjerke (Norway). Glasspool will likely see his world ranking of No. 1,737 make a considerable climb after defeating the No. 762 (Inzerillo) and No. 977 (Hirschmueller) ranked players in the world this week. Glasspool lost in the semifinals to No. 663 Colin Van Beem (Netherlands) on July 26. The futures event in Denmark is being held in the hometown of junior Søren Hess-Olesen, who is not participating due to a minor injury. |
