Guidry, Newhouse, Yarbrough to be inducted into TTTFCA Hall of Fame

Former UT All-American Carlette Guidry, as well as Texas Relays officials Fred Newhouse and Randy Yarbrough, to be inducted into Texas Track & Field Coaches Association Hall Of Fame
WYLIE, Texas – Former Texas All-American and Olympic gold medalist Carlette Guidry, as well as Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays officials Fred Newhouse and Randy Yarbrough, will be inducted into Texas Track & Field Coaches Association (TTTFCA) Hall of Fame on Friday.
Guidry, Newhouse and Yarbrough are among seven members of the 2014 class which also includes official Chester Bradley and Olympians Leroy Burrell, Jon Drummond and Sammy Walker.
Guidry is one of the most decorated athletes in UT history. The Houston native earned 23 All-America honors during her collegiate career (1987-91). She was a 12-time NCAA champion and a 17-time Southwest Conference champion in sprints and relays for the Longhorns. As a senior, she earned the Honda Award as National Track & Field Athlete of the Year and received the Babe Zaharias Award as the nation's top female athlete.
Guidry went on to win two Olympic gold medals (4x100m relay – 1992 & 1996) and five U.S. Championships (indoor – 60m – 2000, 200m – 1995; outdoor – 100m in 1991, 200m in 1994, '96).
Before he was a well-known official, Newhouse was a standout on the track, capturing a silver medal in the 400 meters and gold as part of the 4x400 at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.
Newhouse has served 11 times as high school meet referee for the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Newhouse has also served as Treasurer, Vice President and Chair of the Athletes' Advisory Committee of USA Track and Field in addition to spending several years on the United States Olympic Committee.
Yarbrough also attended Texas and lettered three years (1971-73) on the track and field team. He ran on the 4xmile relay, setting the then school record at the 1973 Kansas Relays. He joined the newly formed University of Texas Track and Field Officials Association in 1974 and has worked UT home meets for over 40 years, including director of officials for the Texas Relays.
The hall of fame induction ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Crowne Plaza in Addison, Texas.
