MORE ON THE HEAD OF THE HOOCH: First contested in 1981, the Head of the Hooch features a 3.1-mile (5K) course. The Atlanta Rowing Club organized the initial regatta, and the event was contested annually on the Chattahoochee River in Roswell, Georgia from 1981 through 1996.
From 1997-2004, the regatta relocated to the rowing venue constructed in Gainesville, Georgia for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. The regatta relocated to Ross' Landing Park on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga in 2005 to accommodate the annual increase in regatta entries. The regatta hosts over 6,000 rowers and 15,000 spectators each year. Texas notched six top-10 finishes at the 2013 Head of the Hooch.
