Turner, Team USA defeat Canada to earn Gold Medal at FIBA Americas U18

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Incoming University of Texas freshman Myles Turner posted five points, five rebounds and a game-high four blocked shots to help Team USA to a 113-79 victory against Canada in the Gold Medal Game of the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship on Tuesday evening. Turner started the game and converted 2-of-2 field goals (including 1-of-1 from three-point range) in 16 minutes of action.

With his four blocked shots in Tuesday's victory, Turner set a USA U18 competition record with 18 total blocks during the five-game tournament. The previous mark was 13 set by both Tim Young and Shareef Abdur-Rahim in the 1994 FIBA Americas Junior World Championship Qualifier.

During the tournament, Turner started all five games and averaged 7.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and a team-best 3.6 blocks in just 15.4 minutes per contest. He converted 13-of-19 (.684) field goals, including 1-of-1 from three-point range, and 9-of-12 (.750) free throws. Nine of his 24 total rebounds came off the offensive glass.

With the win, the Americans posted a 5-0 mark and captured its seventh gold medal all-time in the tourney, having previously won the championship in 1990, 1994, 1998, 2006, 2010 and 2012.
