UT finishes sixth in Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings

Longhorns record six Top Five and 15 Top 20 NCAA Championship finishes during the 2013-14 season and are top-ranked school in the Big 12 Conference.

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas finished sixth in the final 2013-14 Division I Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced Friday.
UT, which was the top-ranked Big 12 Conference institution in the rankings, has now recorded a Top 10 finish a total of 15 times in the 21-year history of the Directors' Cup: 2nd (2001-02, 2002-03 and 2004-05), 3rd (2005-06), 4th (1995-96), 5th (2007-08), 6th (2008-09, 2011-12 and 2013-14), 7th (1993-94 and 1996-97), 8th (2006-07), 9th (1999-2000) and 10th (1994-95 and 2003-04).
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports – 10 women's and 10 men's. Texas scored in each of its nine men's sports and in nine of its 11 women's sports during the 2013-14 season.
Stanford University won the Cup with 1,482 points and was followed in the top five by Florida (1,216.50), Notre Dame (1,128.25), Virginia (1,118.50) and Penn State (1,113.00). The Longhorns finished sixth with a total of 1,093 points.
During the 2013-14 academic calendar year, Texas registered six Top Five and 15 Top 20 NCAA Championship finishes. UT recorded Top Five NCAA performances in men's swimming and diving (second), women's indoor track and field (second), women's outdoor track and field (second), women's volleyball (tied for third), baseball (tied for third) and men's tennis (tied for fifth).
The Longhorns posted a Top 10 finish in women's swimming and diving (ninth) and added Top 20 finishes in men's outdoor track and field (11th), men's golf (13th), men's cross country (14th), men's basketball (tied for 17th, NCAA Round of 32), women's basketball (tied for 17th, NCAA Round of 32), softball (tied for 17th, advanced to NCAA Regional), women's tennis (tied for 17th, NCAA Round of 32) and men's indoor track and field (20th).
Texas also received points in the Directors' Cup standings from women's cross country, football and women's golf.
