Bevo XIV will not be attending the AT&T Red River Showdown due to a life-threatening condition still being explored by his veterinarians.
AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas Silver Spurs, the honorary service organization charged with taking care of the beloved mascot Bevo XIV, regrets to announce that Bevo XIV will not be attending the Texas-OU AT&T Red River Showdown due to a life-threatening condition still being explored by his veterinarians.
Bevo XIV has served as the university's mascot since replacing Bevo XIII in 2004. Bevo is one of the most recognized and beloved college mascots in the world who brings pride and honor to all alumni and fans of The University of Texas at Austin.
"Bevo is a fighter, a symbol of strength, who fans across the world care deeply about. We are carefully monitoring Bevo's condition at this time and will update the public as we find out more about his condition. The safety and well being of Bevo XIV is always our primary concern and therefore he will not be attending the game on Saturday," said Ricky Brennes, executive director of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association.
