Isaiah Taylor paces four Longhorns in double-figure scoring with 18 points and eight assists against just one turnover.
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Isaiah Taylor scored a team-high 18 points and added eight assists against just one turnover on Friday evening at the Battle 4 Atlantis 5th-Place game, but it was not enough as Texas fell to Michigan, 78-72. The Longhorns shot 50-percent from the field (27-of-54), but the Wolverines countered with a 58-percent shooting night (29-of-50). Michigan (4-2) used outstanding three-point shooting (14-of-25, 56-percent) to aid its cause..
Texas (2-3) had three other players join Taylor in double-digit scoring. Cameron Ridley and Eric Davis, Jr. each registered 12 points, while Javan Felix tallied 10 points. Ridley was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Michigan also had four players score in double digits, led by LeVert Caris with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Duncan Robinson added 14 points off the bench, hitting 4-of-5 from three-point range.
The Wolverines held a 44-32 lead at halftime after converting 16-of-27 (.593) field goals, including 11-of-17 (.647) from three-point range. Trailing by as many as 13 points (58-45) after a Robinson three-pointer with 11:48 left, the Horns trimmed the lead down to a single point (67-66) after a Taylor three-point play with just over four minutes remaining. Michigan answered with a 7-0 run, capped by a Zak Irvin three-pointer with just over three minutes left, to build its advantage back to eight points (74-66). UT was unable to cut the deficit to within six points the rest of the contest.
The Longhorns return home for a Tuesday night matchup against UT Arlington. Tip is set for 7 p.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center, and the game will be televised nationally by Longhorn Network.
