USA Diving recognizes UT’s 22nd-year diving coach as the nation’s most outstanding senior diving coach for 2015.
INDIANAPOLIS – USA Diving has announced Texas men's and women's diving coach Matt Scoggin as the recipient of its Mike Peppe Award given annually to the nation's most outstanding senior diving coach.
Scoggin, a former Texas and U.S. Olympic diver in his 22nd season at the helm of the Longhorns' diving program, paced Longhorn Aquatics to the senior team title earlier this year at the 2015 AT&T National Diving Championships.
Scoggin placed three Longhorns on the eight-member U.S. squad for the 2015 Pan American Games, where he served as Team USA's head coach. UT senior Cory Bowersox and Texas-Ex Maren Taylor brought bronze medals home from the Pan American Games, and six of Scoggin's divers represented the United States in international competition this year alone.
Scoggin's divers enjoyed continued success at the collegiate level in 2015. Texas was the only Big 12 school to score points in diving at the 2015 NCAA Championships. His divers contributed to Texas' seventh-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships and the Texas men's program's 11th NCAA team title.
