The final list of competitors for the 2015 Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, set to take place Wednesday through Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium, was announced Tuesday.
The 88th annual meet will draw just more than 7,000 athletes from around the nation among the high school, collegiate and professional ranks.
Last year's event featured competitors from 640 high schools, 232 colleges and universities and 156 invitational athletes, a total of 6,552 total participants from 32 states and nine countries. This year's field has grown to 699 high schools, 214 collegiate teams and 218 invitational athletes. In all, 7,080 athletes from 34 states and nine countries are expected to compete.
The Relays get underway at 10:30 a.m. Central Wednesday with the beginning of the two-day multi-events.
Thursday's action will highlight several of the distance disciplines, including the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters, and the steeplechase events across both the High School and University/College divisions.
The Friday evening session will showcase University/College events for both men and women on the field, including pole vault, shot put and long jump. That night will also feature the sprint medley and distance medley relays, in addition to several premier High School events, including the 1,600 meters, 4x400-meter relay and 300m hurdles.
Saturday will kick off at 8:15 a.m. with the High School 3,200-meter races. The Saturday portion of the High School 4x100-meter relay events will lead into an exciting, action-packed day.
Two events on the final day have been renamed this year in honor of a pair of UT greats. The University/College Women's 4x100-meter relay will be changed to the 'Carlette Guidry - University/College Women's 4x100-Meter Relay' and the University Women's (Invitational) 4x400-meter relay will now be called the 'Sanya Richards-Ross - University Women's (Invitational) 4x400-Meter Relay.' Guidry's 4x100m relay is expected to start at approximately 1:40 p.m. and Richards-Ross' 4x400m relay will be the final race of the meet.
The Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Fan Fest will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the throws area of the stadium (northeast corner) and opening ceremonies will take place at 1 p.m. The Texas Relays Autograph Alley will allow fans to get autographs from some of Texas Relays greatest athletes and Olympians. Times for autograph sessions are yet to be determined but will include Richards-Ross and fellow UT Olympians Trey Hardee, Leo Manzano and Marquise Goodwin.
