Three meet records were broken Friday, the third day of the 2015 Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, which is being held at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The first record of the day fell in the women's university/college javelin. Kara Winger, a professional for Asics, won the event for the second year in a row. Her throw of 199 feet, 6 inches (60.82m) bested her meet and stadium records that she set last season with a toss of 198-4 (60.45m). Winger is coached by UT assistant coach Ty Sevin.
Another record fell in the women's sprint medley relay as the Arkansas crossed the finish line in 3 minutes, 42.36 seconds. The time replaced the mark 3:43.79 set by LSU. It is the first Razorback victory in the sprint medley relay since 2011 and their third win in the event at the Texas Relays.
The final record of the day fell when Kansas senior Michael Stigler took first place in the men's university/college 400-meter hurdles with a time of 48.44, which is the fastest time recorded this season. This is the third consecutive win in the event for Stigler, who set a PR in the race. The previous record was set in 2006 by Arkansas' Michael Tinsley with a time of 48.70.
Texas sophomore Fabian Dohmann won the men's university/college javelin with a throw of 232 feet 6 inches (70.86m). The Paraguayan breaks a 24-year drought for Texas since John Poole's victory in 1991.
The Longhorns placed three women in the finals of the 100m hurdles, which will take place Saturday. Senior Morgan Snow (13.20), junior Mobolaji Adeokun (13.57), and freshman Ariel Jones (13.61) all advanced to the finals.
In the women's Sprint Medley Relay, the Baylor women took the title for the second straight year with a time of 11:18.80. This is the second relay that the Bears have won at this year's Texas Relays as they also won the 4x800m relay on Thursday night, also for the second year in a row.
In high school action, there were a pair of repeat winners. Jay Bradford from Splendora High School won the high school boy's long jump competition for the second consecutive season with a jump of 23-4.75 feet (7.13m). The Flower Mound Marcus girl's high school distance medley relay team finished in 11:57.49 to claim back-to-back titles.
There was also a world record set as Tobi Fawehinmi of UT-Arlington eclipsed the Paralympic mark in the triple jump (section B) with a leap of 50 feet, one-half inch (15.25m). The old record was held by China's Fuiland Liu, who went 49-10 in 2012. Fawehinmi's jump placed him third in the event.
The final day of competition kicks off at 8:15 a.m. Saturday with the high school girl's 3200 meter finals, while field events begin at 9 a.m.
The Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Fan Fest will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the throws area of the stadium (northeast corner) and opening ceremonies will take place at 1 p.m. The Texas Relays Autograph Alley will allow fans to get autographs from some of Texas Relays greatest athletes and Olympians.
