Bowersox wins bronze medal at Pan American Games

Texas rising senior Cory Bowersox wins first medal for USA Diving in Toronto, claims bronze in synchro three-meter.
TORONTO – Texas rising senior diver Cory Bowersox teamed up with former Miami (Fla.) diver Zach Nees to win a bronze medal for the United States Monday afternoon at the 2015 Pan American Games.
Bowersox and Nees rallied to win bronze in the men's synchronized three-meter diving final with 385.38 points. Mexico's Jahir Ocampo and Rommel Pacheco won the gold with 438.27 points while Canada's Philippe Gagné and François Imbeau-Dulac won silver with 413.37 points. The bronze was the first medal of any color for USA Diving at the Pan American Games.
Bowersox and Nees held fifth place through four of six rounds in the eight-team final, but the tandem ascended to third place on its next dive and held on to third in the final round. Bowersox and Nees totaled a meet-best 76.38 points on their fifth dive, a difficult four-and-a-half somersault attempted by only two teams in the final.
The duo held off Brazil's Cesar Castro and Ian Matos for bronze in the final round and totaled 75.48 points on the final dive to comfortably reach the awards podium.
