Lammert records career-high 15 points, while Ibeh posts career-high 7 blocks.
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior forward Connor Lammert scored a career-high 15 points while hitting a career-best 5-of-7 three-pointers, and senior center Prince Ibeh added a career-high 7 blocks, but Texas fell 76-67 at No. 3/3 Kansas on Saturday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse. Freshman guard Eric Davis Jr. and senior guard Isaiah Taylor scored 13 points each, while senior guard Javan Felix rounded out the four Longhorns in double figures with 12 points and a team-high 6 assists.
Kansas forward Perry Ellis scored a game-high 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor. The Jayhawks outrebounded the Longhorns by a 39-31 margin and posted a 19-5 advantage in second-chance points.
The Longhorns jumped out to a 12-2 lead at the 15:15 mark, sparked by a pair of Lammert 3-pointers. Texas built its biggest lead of the game (19-7) following a jumper from Shaquille Cleare with 11:45 left..
Kansas hit its stride midway through the first half, as a pair of 3-pointers from Frank Mason III and Wayne Selden Jr. cut the lead to one (21-20) at the 6:39 mark. The Jayhawks tied the game at 23 following a successful three-point play from Devonte' Graham with 6:05 remaining.
In the final two minutes of the first half, an alley-oop from Taylor to Ibeh and a 3-pointer from Davis sent Texas to the locker room with a 35-30 halftime lead. Lammert and Davis were the top scorers for the Longhorns in the opening 20 minutes with nine points each.
The Longhorns opened the second half strong, as two straight blocks by Ibeh and a forced turnover resulted in a layup from Taylor to put Texas up 40-33 with 17:18 remaining. Ibeh's 7 blocks were most against a Kansas team since Kentucky's Anthony Davis had 7 on Nov. 15, 2011.
The Jayhawks used a 14-2 run over a stretch of 4:52 to grab a 47-42 lead with 12:09 remaining. Kansas extended its lead to 57-46 following a 3-pointer from Selden at the 8:44 mark.
The Longhorns went on a 10-2 run over a stretch of 2:04, capped by a layup from Taylor, to cut the lead to 72-67 with 52 seconds remaining. The Jayhawks were able to hold off Texas by shooting 88.9-percent from the free-throw line (16-of-18)..
The Longhorns return home to face TCU on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Tip is set for 7 p.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center, and the game will be televised nationally on Longhorn Network.
