AUSTIN — Former Men's Basketball student-athlete Nnadubem Gabe Muoneke (1996-2000) was recently named one of three Outstanding Young Engineering Graduates for 2016 by The University of Texas' Cockrell School of Engineering. The honor recognizes selected individuals for their outstanding professional achievements, dedication to public service and support of higher education. Including this year's recipients, 31 alumni have been recognized with this award.
A 2002 graduate of UT with a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Muoneke is the founder, executive director and CEO of MTX, an energy company based in Nigeria. Muoneke directs and executes the company's technical and managerial strategy and secures financing for sustainable and economically-viable energy projects in Africa.
A four-year starter at power forward for the Longhorns, Muoneke finished his UT playing career ranked on several school career lists: tied for second in games played (124), sixth in rebounding (702), seventh in games started (104), ninth in blocked shots (62) and 12th in scoring (1,456 points). As a junior in 1998-99, Muoneke earned consensus first-team All-Big 12 Conference honors and led the team and ranked third in the league in scoring (16.5 ppg) while guiding the Longhorns to the Big 12 regular-season championship. In his senior season, he earned second-team All-Big 12 and first-team NABC All-District 9 accolades while ranking second on the team in both scoring (13.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg).
