No. 24/25 Men's Basketball falls 85-75 at No. 14/15 Iowa State

Mack, Felix lead Longhorns with 18 points each.
AMES, Iowa – Freshman wing Tevin Mack and senior guard Javan Felix paced the Longhorns with 18 points each, but Iowa State used a late run to post an 85-75 win on Saturday night at Hilton Coliseum. Junior guard Kendal Yancy and senior center Prince Ibeh added 10 points in the defeat.
The Longhorns (16-9, 7-5 Big 12) concluded a stretch of five consecutive true road games against AP Top 15 opponents, a first in program history. During this span, Texas played at No. 6 West Virginia (Jan. 20), No. 3 Kansas (Jan. 23), No. 15 Baylor (Feb. 1), No. 3 Oklahoma (Feb. 8) and No. 14 Iowa State (Feb. 13).
Mack tied a career high with five 3-pointers and added five rebounds. Felix converted 7-of-13 from the field and scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half.
Georges Niang and Monte Morris each scored 24 points for Iowa State (18-7, 7-5 Big 12). Niang hit 9-of-16 from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from 3-point range. Iowa State finished the game shooting 55.4-percent (31-of-56) from the floor, including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc.
The two teams opened the first half trading baskets, Iowa State grabbed a 21-12 advantage following a successful three-point play from Morris, its largest lead of the half.
The Longhorns used a 12-0 run over 4:19 capped by a Felix 3-pointer to take their first lead of the game, 24-21, with 6:37 remaining. Eight different Longhorns scored in the first half, with Isaiah Taylor leading the team with seven points. Niang scored Iowa State's next 13 points and Morris added a jumper to give the Cyclones a 36-34 lead at halftime.
Yancy started the second half by hitting a pair of 3-pointers to even the score at 40 at the 18:30 mark. Iowa State used a Morris three and a dunk from Jameel McKay to build a 52-44 lead at the 14-minute mark.
Mack converted a pair of shots from behind the arc, cutting the deficit to 55-52 with 12:19 remaining. At the 10:11 mark, an Ibeh dunk tied the score at 56.
Felix scored the team's next nine points, including a layup to tie the game at 60 with 8:02 left. Iowa State pushed their lead to 73-67 following a layup from McKay at the 5:03 mark. Mack drilled his fifth shot from behind the arc to trim the margin to 73-70 heading with 4:46 remaining.
Another Mack jumper pulled the Longhorns to within 77-74 at the 2:29 mark, but Iowa State rode an 8-0 run over the next 1:36 to seal the victory. UT shot a season-high 84.6-percent from the free-throw line (11-of-13) and posted a 20-9 advantage in second-chance points.
Texas returns home to face No. 10/10 West Virginia at the Frank Erwin Center on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Tip is set for 6 p.m. Central, and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
