USTFCCCA Team Announcement | Individuals
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Cross Country was recognized for its success in the classroom on Friday when the USTFCCCA announced its 2015 Cross Country All-Academic Teams.
The Texas men and women both made the cut as teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Longhorn women boasted a team GPA of 3.38 while the men tallied a team GPA of 3.28.
Texas also had three women and two men recognized for their efforts as individuals on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
Hannah Grubb, Mary Beth Hamilton and Sandie Raines all were honored for their grades and athletic achievements this season as members of the women's team. On the men's side, Brady Turnbull and Jacob Pickle made the list.
To be recognized on the individual team, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have finished in the top 25 at their team's respective NCAA Cross Country Regional Championship or been an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
This fall, the Longhorns qualified both the men and women through the South Central Regional Championships to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2012.
At the regional meet, Pickle finished fifth for the men and Turnbull crossed in seventh place to meet the athletic qualifications for the USTFCCCA award. Hamilton, Grubb and Raines finished in succession, crossing 16-17-18, respectively at the meet.
This is the first USTFCCCA All-Academic award for Pickle and the second for Turnbull, having received the award for track and field last year.
Raines receives her third USTFCCCA All-Academic honor having been named to the team for cross country and track and field last season. This is the first such honor for Grubb and Hamilton.
