Women's Tennis falls to Pepperdine, 4-1

Longhorns continue tournament action Saturday at the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Texas (3-4) won two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point, but No. 10 Pepperdine (6-1) ran off four straight singles wins to close out a 4-1 win over the Longhorns Friday in the opening round of the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic. Texas continues tournament play Saturday against Auburn or Oklahoma State.
"Pepperdine is without question the best team we have faced this year," said first-year UT head coach Howard Joffe. "The outcome once again is disappointing for our group, who is giving absolutely everything they have. And yet, the improvement is obvious. We were dominant in the doubles, which was good after the struggles we have had. As long as the ladies keep competing as they are, I am very confident we will end up being a very formidable team."
Texas assumed a 1-0 lead after winning a pair of doubles matches over top-25 opponents to secure the doubles point. UT senior Breaunna Addison teamed with sophomore Dani Wagland to post a 6-1 win over the Waves' 12th-ranked tandem of Matea Cutura and Christina Maddox at first doubles.
Texas junior Neda Koprcina and freshman Daniella Roldan notched a 6-1 win over the 22nd-ranked duo of Luisa Stefani and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai at second doubles to give Texas the clinching point.
The Waves ran off straight-sets wins at the third, fourth and five singles positions to assume a 3-1 lead. Pepperdine's Runglerdkriangkrai clinched the match with her 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over UT freshman Katie Poluta at fifth singles.
