Men’s Basketball signs Andrew Jones to National Letter of Intent

McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand All-American joins pair of fall signees in James Banks and Jacob Young.
AUSTIN, Texas — Andrew Jones (Irving, Texas) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Shaka Smart announced Wednesday. Jones will join a pair of fall signees in center James Banks (Decatur, Ga.) and guard Jacob Young (Houston, Texas) on the Longhorns' roster for the 2016-17 season.
"I'm extremely excited about the addition of Andrew to our basketball family," Smart said. "He brings a terrific skill set, a passion for the game and an exceptional capacity for work. I believe Andrew will make an immediate and profound impact on our program."
Jones (6-4, 195), a guard from MacArthur High School who played under head coach Toby Martin, was tabbed the No. 28 overall prospect in the nation by Scout.com, No. 29 by ESPN.com and No. 38 by Rivals.com. He competed recently in the prestigious McDonald's All-American Game and is scheduled to participate in the upcoming Jordan Brand Classic on Friday, April 15. Jones is the 17th player in UT history to participate in the McDonald's All-American Game and will be the 13th player in program history to take part in the Jordan Brand Classic.
He averaged 30 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists per game as a senior while leading MacArthur to a 22-7 overall record.
