Campus landmark to be lit burnt orange in recognition of Texas sweeping Big 12 Outdoor Championship
AUSTIN, Texas – The UT Tower will be lit in burnt orange this evening (May 16) in recognition of The University of Texas men's and women's track and field victories at the 2016 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday as well as the women's title at the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship in February.
Per UT tradition, the UT Tower is bathed in burnt orange lighting from top-to-bottom when a University of Texas athletics team wins a conference championship. The tower will go orange at 8:45 p.m.
With the sweep of the men's and women's titles outdoors the Longhorns became the first school in Big 12 history to sweep the outdoor championship meet in back-to-back years.
Texas leads the Big 12 with 10 women's titles outdoors in the 19-year history of the conference. The men surpass former conference member Nebraska for the most outdoor titles now with seven.
The team will gather for the traditional group photo at the Littlefield Fountain (21st Street & University Ave.) this evening at approximately 8:30. The public is welcome to attend and congratulate the team.
