‘Zero Waste Weekend’ success at Baseball, Softball
05.09.2016 | Texas Athletics, Bleed Orange. Live Green.
Texas fans helped divert waste from landfill during home series in April.
Texas Athletics committed baseball and softball home series on April 29-May 1 to be 'Zero Waste Weekend,' and thanks to fan participation, we were officially waste free.
In order to achieve "zero waste" at least 90 percent of landfill waste needed to be diverted to recycling or composting. Red & Charline McCombs Field diverted 90.7 percent of its waste and UFCU Disch-Falk Field diverted 95.6 percent during the three-game series.
The total average of diversion for this year, with all events included, ended up being 93.15 percent, which is nearly a 3 percent increase from last year's diversion rate during Zero Waste Weekend.
We appreciate your support composting and recycling at our facilities. For more information on how we strive to bleed orange and live green, please visit our sustainability webpage.
