06.16.2016 | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving
Eight-day competition begins June 18 in Indianapolis; first two U.S. Olympic Team berths awarded on June 22.
AUSTIN, Texas - Ten current, former and future Longhorns will descend upon Indianapolis over the next 10 days as they aim for spots on the U.S. Olympic Team at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials.
Already the only American diver to compete in four Olympiads, former Longhorn Troy Dumais will go for a fifth berth on the U.S. Olympic Team. Dumais, who won bronze alongside former Stanford diver Kristian Ipsen in three-meter synchro at the 2012 London Olympics, will compete in both three-meter and synchronized three-meter (with Ipsen) in Indianapolis.
Cory Bowersox, Meghan Houston, Emma Ivory-Ganja and Maren Taylor join Dumais as former Longhorns competing at the U.S. Trials. Current Longhorns competing at Trials include All-America juniors Mark Anderson and Murphy Bromberg in addition to NCAA Championships qualifier Sean O'Brien. Incoming UT men's diving freshman Grayson Campbell and women's diving freshman Alison Gibson also are set for Trials.
The event gets underway Saturday morning (June 18) with the preliminary rounds of the men's synchronized three-meter and women's synchronized platform events. Preliminary and semifinal competition continues through Tuesday, and the first selections to the U.S. Olympic Team will be issued Wednesday night (June 22) in the two aforementioned events.
The competition concludes on Sunday, June 26 with the women's three-meter and men's platform finals.
U.S. Olympic Trials competition format: Scores will be cumulative over three lists of dives (preliminaries, semifinals and finals). The top team in each of the men's synchronized 3-meter, men's synchronized 10-meter and women's synchronized 10-meter events will be selected to the U.S. Olympic Team.
In the individual events, the top two finishers in the men's 3-meter, men's 10-meter and women's 10-meter events and the top finisher in the women's 3-meter event will be named to the team.
