The sophomore defender pens her first blog entry discussing the start of team training and the exhibition match
Greetings Texas Soccer fans!
The torch has been passed this year from "Stories from the Field" with Brinkley to "Paige from the Pitch" with me, sophomore defender Paige Hooper! I'm excited to share with y'all a little behind the scenes look from my life as a Texas soccer player.
WE'RE BAACKK! With the addition of eight freshmen and three transfers, including our first Australian player, Monique Iannella! We have had a busy last two weeks on the Forty Acres full of fitness tests, preseason photo shoots, food from the Texas Athletics Nutrition Center (TANC) and soccer accompanied by plenty of ice baths.
Besides all of the soccer, we were also pleasantly surprised with a pool session and a silly scavenger hunt that ended at the Movie House. Thanks to Coach Ange (Kelly), we laughed our butts off and scarfed down some popcorn and Icees in a much-needed break.
However, as Friday approached, the team was ready and excited to face our first opponent in an exhibition match, Texas A&M Corpus Christi. With our new swaggy uniforms, we took the field ready to play against someone other than ourselves. Our hard work was rewarded with a 3-0 victory, thanks to our attacking mentality that created a goal for Katie Glenn and two more for Olivia Brook.
A good start, now we have to keep building as we head into the regular season! Come check out the squad as we take on Seattle next Friday night in our season opener at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Aug. 19th at 7 p.m. CT.
Thanks for the support,
P-Hoop with the Scoop
