Petra Granic will join the Longhorns this month in advance of the 2016-17 season.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas head coach Howard Joffe announced Thursday the signing of Croatian tennis standout Petra Granic to an athletics scholarship agreement (ASA). Granic is eligible to join the Longhorns in advance of the upcoming 2016-17 season.
"Petra's inclusion in our group adds another extremely bright and talented young lady to the ever growing list of excellent Croatians that have performed for the Longhorns in recent years," Joffe said. "I am very grateful to Petra and her parents for choosing The University of Texas."
Granic, who has ranked as high as No. 970 in the WTA tennis rankings, won a junior singles tournament at the Epetion Cup in Split, Croatia and added a title at a similar event in Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Granic was a finalist at the Tirana Cup U18 event in Tirana, Albania and a semifinalist at the Junior Zagred Cup.
"A cursory glance at her junior results will let anyone know that her list of collegiate suitors was as long as it was impressive," Joffe added. "I know Petra has the skills, smarts, and character to be very successful and popular. I am also very confident that our coaching staff, our school and our athletic department will help support Petra in a way that will allow Petra's talents to blossom and make us all proud."
