University students and fans encouraged to attend free event and catch your first glimpse of the 2016-17 Longhorns
Year two of the Shaka Smart era is here, and for the second straight season, Texas Men's Basketball begins the year in the heart of The University of Texas campus.
The Texas Tip-Off is set for Thursday, Oct. 20 at Gregory Gym. Admission is free. However, tickets must be claimed online in advance at TexasSports.com/Tickets.
Priority access to claim free tickets opens on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m., available to all University students and current men's basketball season ticket holders.
General public can claim any remaining tickets beginning on Friday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m.
All seating is general admission inside Gregory Gym on a first-come, first-served basis, and fans are encouraged to line up outside the gym entrance in advance of doors opening at 6 p.m. The entrance to Gregory Gym is at the top of the stairs on the west side of the gymnasium. Please print and bring your free tickets for entrance into Gregory Gym. Contests, prizes and entertainment will lead up to the intrasquad scrimmage at 7 p.m.
Longhorn Network will provide live coverage of this year's Texas Tip-Off Event. LHN will take the air with a 30-minute "Texas GameDay" preview show airing from a studio set inside Gregory Gym from 6:30-7 p.m. Longhorn Network then will televise the intrasquad scrimmage from 7-8:30 p.m.
Texas returns seven players from last year's team which posted a 20-13 overall record, including four wins against AP Top 10 opponents (most in a regular season in school history), and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Longhorns also welcome a total of seven newcomers to the roster, including a Top 5 recruiting class of four highly-touted freshmen in James Banks, Jacob Young and a pair of McDonald's All-Americans in Jarrett Allen and Andrew Jones.
The first 1,000 fans through the doors can claim free T-shirts, courtesy of Raising Cane's. Raising Cane's is also providing free food for UT students on a first-come, first-served basis (while supplies last).
Parking for this event is free and available in the Brazos Garage.
