Bamba paces Team Orange to 58-49 victory at Texas Tip-Off

AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas freshman forward Mohamed Bamba posted a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds to go along with 3 blocks in 21 minutes to lead Team Orange to a 58-49 win against Team White in the third annual Texas Tip-Off presented by American Campus Communities on Wednesday night. The Texas Tip-Off featured a 24-minute intrasquad scrimmage, preceded by fan-friendly dance, 3-point and dunk contests at historic Gregory Gymnasium.
Junior guard Eric Davis Jr. recorded 13 points on 5-8 shooting, including 2-3 three-pointers, in 19 minutes for Team Orange. Freshman forward Jericho Sims added 11 points on 5-8 shooting in 20 minutes.
Sophomore guard Andrew Jones paced Team White with 15 points on 5-9 shooting, including 2-5 three-pointers, and 3-4 free throws in 21 minutes. Junior guard Kerwin Roach II added 10 points while hitting 2-3 three-pointers in 23 minutes.
Team Orange jumped to a 12-4 lead with 21:08 remaining following a Davis layup was able to fend off runs from Team White throughout the scrimmage. Team White was able to get within three at 52-49 at the 1:07 mark following a Jones three, but a Sims tip-in started a 6-0 run to close the contest for Team Orange.
In the first year of the pre-scrimmage events, Davis claimed the 3-point shootout against freshman Jase Febres and Roach topped Sims in the dunk contest.
Texas opens the regular season at home against Northwestern State on Friday, Nov. 10. Tip is set for 7 p.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center, and the game will be televised by Longhorn Network.
