The Garland, Texas, native is the sixth UT player to reap USC All-American honors in program history
AUSTIN, Texas – Following a breakout 2017 campaign, Texas soccer sophomore forward Cyera Hintzen has been selected as a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American, according to a Thursday night release from the organization in conjunction with the Women's College Cup in Orlando, Fla.
A total of 41 NCAA Division I players received All-American recognition this season with the group being formally acknowledged for their accomplishments, along with their coaches and families, at the United Soccer Coaches Convention All-American Luncheon on Jan. 20, 2018, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in downtown Philadelphia.
With her inclusion, Hintzen joined Kelly Wilson (2001, 2002), Kati McBain (2002), Kelly McDonald (2003), Kasey Moore (2006, 2007, 2008) and Kelsey Carpenter (2006) as just the sixth Longhorns player in program history to be voted as a United Soccer Coaches All-American while earning the program's ninth overall selection.
The Garland, Texas, native helped power UT to a 14-4-3 overall record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen by topping the Big 12 Conference in total points (25) and match-winners (six) while tying for the league lead in goals (10). Demonstrating a true flair for the dramatic, four of Hintzen's six match-winners occurred during the 82nd minute or later. Included were goals to top No. 5 West Virginia (87:40, W, 1-0) and North Texas (81:48, W, 1-0) as well as "golden goals" to defeat both UTRGV (97:13, W, 1-0, OT) and Texas Tech (101:32, W, 3-2, 2OT) in extra time. She was also the offensive leader for the Longhorns once the squad entered the NCAA Tournament, registering a team-leading three total goals, including a program record-tying two goals during a 3-0 victory over North Texas (Nov. 10).
Texas joined West Virginia (two selections), Baylor and Oklahoma State as the only Big 12 Conference schools to earn All-American recognition (five total selections) this season.
