Gibson places second on one-meter at USA Diving Winter Nationals

Austin native Alison Gibson finishes as the runner-up on one-meter while Meghan O’Brien takes eighth place.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Texas sophomore Alison Gibson finished as the runner-up while UT junior Meghan O'Brien placed eighth in the women's one-meter final Wednesday at the opening session of the 2017 USA Diving Winter National Championships.
Gibson, the 2017 NCAA champion on one-meter, totaled 470.75 points through the event's preliminary and final rounds for second place, just six points behind champion Meme Sharp. An Austin native, Gibson finished as the one-meter runner-up at the same meet a year ago before winning a U.S. national title last summer on one-meter.
O'Brien, a qualifier for the 2017 NCAA Championships, placed eighth in Wednesday's one-meter final with 412.05 points.
Texas junior Sofia Rauzi competed in the one-meter preliminary round and tied for 17th place with 179 points.
The Texas women resume competition on Thursday with the platform preliminary and semifinal rounds.
