Texas freshman Jordan Windle takes second in the men’s platform final but claims the U.S. national title as the top American finisher.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Texas freshman Jordan Windle landed the top finish by an American diver and secured the U.S. national title in men's platform Sunday at the 2017 USA Diving Winter National Championships.
Windle totaled 1,263.5 points for second place through the preliminary, semifinal and final rounds of competition. However, given that he was the event's top American finisher, Windle is credited with the U.S. national title in men's platform. The two-time World Championships qualifier claims his second senior-level national title of the year on platform after winning the same event over the summer at the USA Diving National Diving Championships.
Sophomore Jacob Cornish joined Windle in the men's platform final and placed eighth with 890.32 points. Colin Zeng, a native of China, was the top scorer with 1,283.55 points.
On the women's side, Texas redshirt junior Murphy Bromberg and UT junior Meghan O'Brien competed in the three-meter final. Bromberg placed sixth with 741.60 points while O'Brien took ninth place overall with 736.50 points.
The 2017 USA Diving Winter National Championships continue Monday and Tuesday with synchronized competition on three-meter and platform.
