Longhorns wrap weekend home stand with convincing with over the Horned Frogs.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 22 Texas (8-6, 2-2 Big 12) took control from the outset and notched a pair of doubles wins and three singles victories in a 4-0 win over No. 27 TCU Sunday afternoon at the Whitaker Tennis Courts.
Texas started off the match with wins at the third and first doubles positions to collect the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead. UT's Daniella Roldan and Dani Wagland held on for a 6-4 win over Aleksandra Zenovka and Alexis Pereira at third doubles.
The Horns put away the doubles point behind a 6-1 win from freshmen Petra Granic and Bianca Turati over the 37th-ranked tandem of Caroline Wegner and Donika Bashota at first doubles. The remaining match was suspended.
Texas kept the pressure on TCU in singles play, and the Horns relinquished nothing on their way to victory. Granic handed Sofiko Kadzhaya a 6-4, 6-2 defeat at third singles, and senior Neda Koprcina gave Texas a 3-0 lead with her 6-3, 6-3 win over Zenovka at second singles.
Bianca Turati engaged in a hard-fought match with TCU's 81st-ranked Seda Arantekin at first singles, but the freshman from Italy held on for a 6-2, 7-5 win to close out the Longhorns' 4-3 victory. The remaining matches were called off.
Texas continues Big 12 play next weekend when it visits West Virginia (March 31) and Iowa State (April 2).

POST-MATCH COMMENTS
Texas head coach Howard Joffe
Obviously, we're happy and excited we beat TCU. They're a very good team, and any time you get a win over a team like that, it's a very good thing. I did tell the team, and I think they agree, within the season there are ups and downs with any team. At the moment, I think our rope is pretty thin. I don't think we're playing terribly good tennis. So, the challenge to us is to regroup. We had two very difficult matches in a three-day period. We'll start to get a little stronger and a little tougher as we head into the end of the conference and the business end of the season. I'm delighted about the win, but we definitely aren't playing our best.
On Bianca Turati's performance today at No. 1 singles
I think Bianca's performance was just emblematic of where the team is at. Texas is really hard academically. We're practicing hard, and we've done a lot of travel. If you look at our schedule, we've only had five home matches the whole year. We've been traveling a lot, have kept up with our studies and had a lot of practice. She's someone who is tired but she's also tough as can be and will fight to the end. Bianca did that today. She got us over the finish line, and I'm very proud of her.
Texas freshman Bianca Turati
It was obviously very tough to play two matches in two days. I felt tired today, but it was good to win for the team. I was just trying to keep going to win the match.
