Anderson, Cornish earn NCAA Championships diving berths on platform

All-America senior Mark Anderson earns his third berth in as many days while freshman Jacob Cornish scores his first NCAA Championships bid.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Texas All-America senior Mark Anderson and UT freshman Jacob Cornish earned NCAA Championships berths on platform to cap a productive week for the Longhorns men at the NCAA Zone "D" Diving Meet.
The top-nine finishers in Wednesday's men's platform finals were assured of NCAA Championships berths on platform. Anderson, given the automatic berths he earned this week on one-meter and three-meter, needed only a 12th place finish to earn a national berth on platform. Cornish, as a non-qualifier heading into platform, needed a top-nine finish, and both he and Anderson delivered.
Cornish, the Big 12 champion on platform, placed seventh through the preliminary and final rounds with 695.25 points to land his first NCAA Championships berth. Anderson will compete on all three boards at the NCAA Championships after placing 10th in the platform finals with 648.65 points.
UT freshman Reed Merritt advanced out of the preliminary round but scratched from the event prior to the finals.
Cornish, Anderson and Texas freshman Grayson Campbell will join 15 Texas swimmers at the NCAA Championships set for March 22-25 in Indianapolis.
