UT Athletics recognizes the “student” in student-athlete during the 2017 Academic Awards Presentation.
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas Athletics Department took a collective timeout Monday night from practice and competition on the field of play. For one evening on the floor of the Frank Erwin Center, the Longhorn family came together to honor its student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom and the community during the 2017 Academic Awards Presentation.
A total of 281 student-athletes earned a spot on the Spring 2016 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, including 26 who registered a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The honor roll is released each semester and recognizes those student-athletes who register a 3.0 or better grade point average in the previous semester. A total of 276 student-athletes were named to the Fall 2016 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, with 16 earning a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Five student-athletes received the 2017 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the Big 12 Conference's highest academic honor: Soccer senior Paige Brown, Men's Swimming and Diving senior P.J. Dunne, Rowing junior Rachel Fleming, Men's Track and Field junior Zach Hamstra and Soccer senior Isabelle Kerr. Student-athletes also connected with the Austin community, as they visited hospitals, cheered at the Special Olympics, read in elementary school classrooms and collected donations for those less fortunate.
