Current, former and future Longhorns head to Indianapolis to compete for berths on the World Championship team.
AUSTIN, Texas – Olympic gold medalists Townley Haas, Jack Conger and Clark Smith are among the Longhorns contingent competing at this week's USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships in Indianapolis.
The meet opens Tuesday, June 27 and runs through Saturday, July 1. Preliminary rounds get underway at 9 a.m. local time (8 a.m. CT) each day with finals set for 6 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. CT). Winners of each of the Olympic events, plus the top-four finishers in the 100m and 200m freestyle events, are guaranteed places on the U.S. roster at next month's FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary (July 23-30).
The second-place finishers in each Olympic event, in addition to the fifth- and sixth-place finishers in the 100m and 200m freestyle events, likely will earn spots on the U.S. roster, as well. However, those berths will not be made official until USA Swimming's team selection procedures have been applied upon the meet's conclusion (complete selection procedures here.)
Former Longhorn Madisyn Cox brings three top-seven seeds to Indianapolis as she attempts to qualify for her first senior-level U.S. team in the long-course (50m pool) format. The Lubbock native represented the U.S. at the 2014 and 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships in addition to the 2015 World University Games.
