NUNAWADING, Australia — Freshman forward Mohamed Bamba registered a team-high 18 points and five blocked shots to pace The University of Texas in an 85-75 defeat against Melbourne United on Wednesday evening at Nunawading Basketball Stadium. Melbourne United plays in the National Basketball League (NBL), the top professional league in Australia.
Junior guard Kerwin Roach II recorded 12 points, while freshman guard Matt Coleman added 11 points for the Longhorns.
This marks just the second overseas summer tour by a UT men's basketball team and first since the program visited Australia in the summer prior to the 1996-97 season.
The Longhorns return to action on Friday, Aug. 18 against Cairns Taipans, another NBL franchise. Tip is set for 7 p.m. Australia time (4 a.m. Central).
