AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Athletics is making significant upgrades to its basketball facilities in support of the Men's and Women's basketball programs. The upgrades include a new centerhung video display system and a 360-degree ribbon display in the Frank Erwin Center, renovated men's and women's locker rooms in Denton A. Cooley Pavilion, new floorboards in both facilities and a new court design at the Erwin Center. The renovations will be completed before the start of the upcoming 2017-18 season. Total project cost is approximately $4.25 million.
"The upgrades to the Texas Basketball facilities demonstrate the commitment that The University of Texas has to both basketball programs," said Texas Men's Athletics Director Mike Perrin. "The Frank Erwin Center and Denton A. Cooley Pavilion will be the homes of our basketball programs for the next several years. The investment in these upgrades will provide the necessary assets for our student-athletes and enhance a game day experience that Texas fans expect."
The Erwin Center's new 9-display centerhung video system will improve fan experience by providing clearer and sharper video content as well as comprehensive, in-progress statistical information. The configuration will consist of four main video displays, four upper game in-progress displays and a lower ring display. Each main display will measure 12.5 feet high by 23 feet wide – the equivalent of nearly 27 total 60-inch televisions. Each upper game in-progress display will measure 6 feet high by 28 feet wide. The lower ring display will measure 3 feet high by 68 feet in circumference. Additionally, a new 360-degree ribbon display measuring 689 feet will be installed around the seating fascia of the main seating bowl. Daktronics is performing the installation and upgrade of the display systems.
