Senior Dani Wagland and freshman Marta Perez-Mur win their respective singles draws.
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Texas senior Dani Wagland and freshman Marta Perez-Mur completed unblemished weekends of singles and won their respective draws Sunday at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic hosted by Furman University.
Wagland went 3-0 in singles on the weekend and won singles flight six. The Australian took on Tennessee's Gabby Schuck in the final and came away with a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
Perez-Mur, a Spaniard playing in her first collegiate tournament, finished off her own 3-0 tournament run with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Wake Forest's Chandler Carter in singles flight four.
UT junior Katie Poluta added a win in the third place match in flight three. The South African defeated Tea Jandric of Ole Miss, 6-4, 6-3.
"This was an extremely strong showing for Texas," said UT head coach Howard Joffe. "Marta Perez-Mur and Dani Wagland won their draws, and we were represented in four finals. It feels very good to see a Texas team with some teeth and depth. Naturally, we will work hard to keep improving as we move on to our next event."
Texas resumes fall tournament play next Saturday (Sept. 30) at the annual ITA All-American Championships.
