AUSTIN, Texas – Head Coach Mario Sategna announced the hiring of Benjamin Dalton as an assistant coach for Texas Track & Field on Tuesday.
Dalton comes to Texas after serving three years as head coach at the University of New Orleans. He also was an assistant coach for the Privateers for two years before taking the lead at UNO.
"I'm very pleased to welcome Coach Dalton to our staff at the University of Texas," Sategna said. "He brings great experience and proven success in the sprints and hurdles events where he will help keep the Longhorns among the best in the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA.
"We are looking forward to having Benjamin here and working with our student-athletes to make them the best they can be both on the track and off."

Dalton will serve the Longhorns as an assistant coach for sprints, hurdles, relays and the 800 meters where he will work with Associate Head Coach Tonja Buford-Bailey and Assistant Coach Zach Glavash. Dalton will also coach the multi-event athletes at Texas in the sprints and hurdles to assist Sategna with that group in those areas.
Under his direction at UNO, the Privateers saw great success in the sprints and hurdles events. Dalton guided his athletes to four appearances at the NCAA Championships final sites and saw his athletes break school records 35 times.
In 2017, Dalton coached Michael Nicholls to a Southland Conference championship in the 110 meter hurdles and the 60 meter hurdles title at the indoor conference championship. Nicholls would qualify for the NCAA Championships and finish in 20th place outdoors for the Privateers.
Dalton also coached Nicholls at the 2016 IAAF World Junior Championships where Nicholls qualified for the final and finished sixth overall.
Prior to coaching at UNO, Dalton was a volunteer assistant for the Longhorns in 2012. He helped with the men's sprints and hurdles as Texas finished third in the USTFCCCA John McDonnell Program of the Year standings. Dalton helped coach Keiron Stewart finish eighth at the NCAA Championships in the 110 hurdles. Stewart took silver in the 60 meter hurdles at the Big 12 Indoor Championship that year as well.
Dalton also served as a volunteer assistant at LSU from 2009-11 where he aided in the weight training programs for the sprint and hurdle groups. In 2010, he was a travel coach for Lolo Jones and she would go on to win gold at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in the 60 meter hurdles.
A native of England, Dalton earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of Bath with a double major in biomechanics and exercise physiology. He also studied abroad at the University of Florida as part of the program. While coaching at LSU, Dalton earned a master's degree in kinesiology.
