Three from Women’s Tennis advance to singles semifinals at ITA Texas Regionals

Labraña, Markovic and Turati each register wins on Saturday to move on to Sunday’s semifinals.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The University of Texas women's tennis team advanced three players to the singles semifinals at the ITA Texas Regional Championships at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. Junior Anna Turati and sophomores Fernanda Labraña and Bojana Markovic each recorded wins on Saturday to move on to Sunday's semifinal round.
Top-seed Turati defeated Texas A&M's Katya Townsend (7-5, 6-3) to earn her spot in the semifinals. Labraña, the No. 7 seed, rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory against Jayci Goldsmith of Texas A&M. In the final quarterfinal matchup that featured a pair of Longhorns, No. 6 seed Markovic rallied for a hard-fought 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win against senior Katie Poluta.
Turati will face Texas Tech's Francesca Sella in one semifinal on Sunday, while Labraña and Markovic will square off in the other semifinal match. Singles semifinals are slated for Sunday, Oct. 21 at 9:30 a.m. Central, while the championship match is set for 9:30 a.m. Central on Monday, Oct. 22.
All matches will be held on Texas A&M's campus at the Mitchell Tennis Center. Admission to the event is free.
