Senior Dylan Osetkowski posts his second-straight double-double to pace the Longhorns.
AUSTIN, Texas — Senior forward Dylan Osetkowski and senior guard Kerwin Roach II led the way as Texas (3-0) defeated Louisiana Monroe 65-55 on Monday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Osetkowski recorded his second straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Roach filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals in the win.
Freshman forward Jaxson Hayes reached double figures in scoring for the second time in his first three collegiate contests, registering 11 points, 5 boards and 3 blocks in 26 minutes.
The Longhorns connected on just one of their first eight field goals and trailed the Warhawks 6-3 at the 15:41 mark of the first half. Trailing 11-6 with 14:17 left, Texas used a three-pointer from freshman guard Courtney Ramey, a Ramey free throw, a Roach jumper, a Roach three-pointer and a three-pointer from sophomore guard Jase Febres to take an 18-11 lead at the 9:15 mark.
ULM (2-1) responded with an 11-0 run to grab a 22-18 advantage with 4:32 remaining. Osetkowski and Hayes accounted for Texas' last eight points of the half, and the Longhorns took a 30-29 lead into the locker room.
Junior guard Elijah Mitrou-Long provided a spark for the Longhorns in the second half, scoring seven consecutive points to give Texas a 46-43 lead with 12:09 left. An emphatic put-back dunk by Roach and a three-point play from Osetkowski highlighted a 12-0 run that increased the margin to 55-43 at the 7:39 mark. ULM was not able to trim the deficit to single digits for the remainder of the night.
