No. 6 Men's Swimming and Diving adds six wins on third night of Big 12 Championships

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 6 Texas stretched its lead and won six of seven events Friday evening at the Big 12 Championships.
Senior Joseph Schooling was true to form en route to victory in his signature event, the 100 butterfly. Schooling, the reigning Olympic gold medalist in the same event, was victorious Friday evening in 45.10 seconds. His classmate Brett Ringgold finished as the runner-up in 46.18 while junior Tate Jackson took third at 46.24. Freshman Sam Pomajevich placed fifth at 47.36 while junior Max Holter took seventh at 47.88.
"I just wanted to get out there as quick as I could and race with my teammates," Schooling said. "Hopefully I posted a good time. We're not in the best shape right now to race, but right now, the big thing is just giving your best."
All-America senior Jonathan Roberts joined former Longhorn Michael Klueh as the only swimmers to win three Big 12 titles in the 400 IM. Roberts took the win in 3:43.72 while junior Sam Stewart followed in second at 3:44.93. Redshirt sophomore Ryan Harty took third at 3:46.45 while freshman JohnThomas Larson placed fifth at 3:49.97.
All-America junior Townley Haas won his third league crown in as many years in the 200 freestyle. Haas, the silver medalist in the same event at the 2017 FINA World Championships, edged his classmate Jeff Newkirk at 1:33.53. Newkirk followed closely behind at 1:33.69. Freshman Parker Neri, the 500 freestyle champion from Thursday, took third at 1:35.10.
Freshman Austin Katz grabbed his first conference title in the 100 backstroke at 46.02 while his teammate Josh Artmann took second at 47.38. Junior John Shebat, the 2017 NCAA runner-up in the event, won the "B" final in 45.76.
Freshman Jordan Windle collected his first career Big 12 title in the three-meter diving event. Windle, a two-time World Championships qualifier for Team USA, took the win with 470.80 points. Reed Merritt added a third-place total of 358.40 points.
Texas capped the evening with its victory in the 200 freestyle relay, as Jackson joined Ringgold, Katz and Schooling to win in 1:16.90.
Junior Casey Melzer added a third-place mark of 52.97 in the 100 breaststroke, and senior Austin Temple took fourth at 53.60.
Texas leads the event through three of four days with 723 points. West Virginia sits in second with 611 points while TCU holds third place with 444 points.
The fourth and final day of the Big 12 Championships gets underway Saturday at 10 a.m. CT.
