AUSTIN — University of Texas junior guard Kerwin Roach II will declare himself eligible for the upcoming 2018 NBA Draft, the school announced Tuesday. Roach will submit his name into the draft but does not plan to hire an agent.
"My family and I talked with Coach Smart and we have all decided that it is best for me to test the waters," Roach said. "We want to see where I may stand in this year's draft, but we're also keeping all options open. We want to get the most accurate feedback directly from the NBA, so we can make the best decision for my future."
During his junior season, Roach earned All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention accolades and played in 32 of UT's 34 games (31 starts). He led the team in steals (47) and ranked second in assists (115, 3.6 apg), third in scoring (12.3 ppg) and minutes (33.4 mpg) and fourth in rebounding (3.7 rpg). During his last 17 games of the season, Roach registered a team-best 14.3 points and 4.1 assists per game while converting 40.5-percent (34-84) from three-point range.
