Men’s Basketball signs Ramey to National Letter of Intent

AUSTIN, Texas — Courtney Ramey (St. Louis, Missouri) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Shaka Smart announced Monday.
The addition of Ramey gives the Longhorns a five-man freshman class. Ramey will join forwards Brock Cunningham (Austin, Texas), Jaxson Hayes (Loveland, Ohio), Kamaka Hepa (Barrow, Alaska) and Gerald Liddell (Cibolo, Texas) for the 2018-19 season.
"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Courtney Ramey to our basketball program," Smart said. "He's a terrific player with high competitive character that makes people around him better. We value the fact that Courtney is about relationships and winning. His playmaking ability and leadership tie together an already talented class."
Ramey (6-4, 185), a guard from Webster Groves High School (St. Louis, Missouri) who played under coach Jay Blossom, is ranked as the No. 31 prospect in the nation by 247Sports, No. 38 by 247Sports composite, No. 40 by Rivals and No. 56 by ESPN. He recently competed in the 2018 Allen Iverson Roundball Classic (April 21) in Philadelphia.
Ramey ended his career as Webster Groves' all-time leader in points (1,838) and assists (521), and ranked second in rebounds (741) and steals (201). He averaged 21.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game as a senior while leading Webster Groves to a 22-9 record and the team's second straight Class 5 state championship. Ramey converted 49-percent from the floor and 81-percent from the free throw line in his senior year.
Ramey earned state Player of the Year honors by USA TODAY High School Sports following his senior season. He posted 27 points, six assists and six rebounds during the 101-90 victory in the Class 5 state championship game against Chaminade College Prep.
As a junior, Ramey averaged 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals per contest while helping Webster Groves to the Class 5 state title.
