Horns win 10th straight matches for the first time since 2010.
FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 6 Texas (15-4, 5-0 Big 12) seized the doubles point and tacked on three singles victories in a 4-0 win over TCU (9-10, 0-4 Big 12) Friday night at TCU's Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The Longhorns stretch their winning streak to 10 matches, which marks their first such streak since 2010.
Friday's contest started outdoors before a lightning delay and subsequent rainfall moved the match indoors. Texas led doubles before the match relocated, and the Longhorns finished off the doubles point indoors. UT picked up a 6-3 win from freshman Marta Perez-Mur and sophomore Bianca Turati over TCU's Stevie Kennedy and Marie Norris at second doubles.
Texas finished off the point at the third position where sophomore Anna Turati and junior Katie Poluta dealt the Horned Frogs' Elizabeth Tedford and Aleksandra Zenovka a 6-4 defeat. The remaining match at first doubles was suspended.
UT freshman Bojana Markovic pushed the Horns' lead to 2-0 behind her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kennedy at fourth singles. It marked Markovic's fourth straight win and her sixth victory in her last seven decisions.
Bianca Turati, the nation's top-ranked player, scored her sixth straight win and defeated TCU's 98th-ranked Zenovka at first singles, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Petra Granic, who moved up 10 spots to No. 67 in this week's ITA singles rankings, locked up the Longhorns' fifth conference win with her 6-3, 7-5 victory over Norris at third singles. The remaining matches were suspended given the team victor had been decided.
Texas concludes its road trip on Sunday when it visits Texas Tech.
POST-MATCH COMMENTS
Texas head coach Howard Joffe
Tonight definitely asked some questions of our ladies' resolve. A 35-minute lightning delay followed by a rain delay and then a move indoors at the critical moment of the doubles unquestionably made for a late and interesting evening. We will need to play better tennis moving forward, but the Longhorns did display some psychological mettle.
