Tijana Spasojevic will join the Longhorns for the 2018-19 season.
AUSTIN, Texas – University of Texas Women's Tennis has signed Serbian standout Tijana Spasojevic (tee-YAHN-uh spaz-oh-YEH-vich) to an Athletics Scholarship Agreement (ASA), head coach Howard Joffe announced Tuesday. She will join the program in August for the 2018-19 academic year as a freshman.
"We are thrilled to announce the addition of Tijana Spasojevic to our quickly-improving team," Joffe commented. "I'm enormously grateful to her parents, Natasa and Slobodan, for trusting Texas with Tijana's development, tennis and well-being. Tijana would not be here if it weren't for the selfless support of her coach Ivan Djudjevic. I can't wait for Tijana to get to the Forty Acres and start her career."
Ranked as high as No. 836 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings during her career, Spasojevic will join the Longhorns this fall.
"I'm very excited to come play, study and proudly represent Texas," Spasojevic said. "Go 'Horns!"
Spasojevic comes to the Forty Acres to be a part of roster that includes 10 returning players from last season when Texas posted its highest final team ranking (No. 6) since 2005. UT won its first outright Big 12 regular-season title since 2004 and its first Big 12 tournament title since 2013. The Longhorns advanced to the NCAA Round of 16.
