Five Rowers earn CRCA All-America honors

Bon, Froehlich and Soufi claim first-team accolades; Josic named to second team; Jacobs tabbed Honorable Mention.
AUSTIN, Texas — Five University of Texas rowers earned spots on the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) 2018 Division I Pocock All-America Teams, the organization announced this week. Junior Fanny Bon, senior Emily Froehlich and junior Mariam Soufi all claimed first-team honors. Sophomore Ljiljana Josic was named to the second team, while junior coxswain Ashley Jacobs was tabbed Honorable Mention.
The Longhorns tied a program record set last year (2017) with five total All-America selections.
Froehlich, the 2018 Big 12 Conference Rower of the Year, became the third three-time All-America rower in UT history, joining Gia Doonan (2015-17) and Pippa Loveard (2015-17). Froehlich previously earned first-team All-America honors as a freshman in 2015 and second-team accolades as a sophomore in 2016.
Soufi and Josic both earned their second career All-America honors, while Bon and Jacobs received their first career All-America accolades.
The quintet led the Longhorns to a program-best third-place team finish at the 2018 NCAA Championship in May. All five All-Americans rowed on UT's first varsity eight boat that placed third at NCAAs in the six-boat grand final, marking the top finish ever by a Longhorns boat at an NCAA Championship.
For the first time in school history, all three of UT's boats placed among the top-five overall finishers at the NCAA Championship. UT also swept all five races at the 2018 Big 12 Championship en route to its fourth consecutive league title.
Each year, the coaches of the CRCA recognize the outstanding student-athletes in each NCAA Division (I, II and III). Student-athletes must have rowed in at least 75-percent of the team's races in the varsity boat. All-America athletes are selected from those athletes previously named first-team all-region. Criteria for selection include: boat performance, nomination rank, coach's comments, individual achievements and individual two-kilometer ergometer score. One coxswain is named to each team.
In addition, the CRCA announced its Regional Coaches and Staffs of the Year. Texas head coach Dave O'Neill earned CRCA Region III Coach of the Year honors, while The University of Texas also claimed the CRCA Region III Staff of the Year accolades.
