Bianca Turati wins ITF 15k Sezze singles title

Rising junior claims her second-straight ITF pro circuit singles crown in as many weeks.
SEZZE, Italy — Rising University of Texas junior Bianca Turati claimed the singles title at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) pro circuit 15k tournament in Sezze, Italy on Sunday. Turati posted an impressive 6-2, 6-1 win against Nastassya Burnett (Italy) in Sunday's championship match.
This marks the second consecutive ITF pro circuit singles championship for Turati, who last week claimed the 15k crown in Biella, Italy. Dating back to July 22, she has registered a 16-1 singles record (including a current streak of 10 straight wins) with her only loss coming to Burnett in the championship match at the 15k tournament in Schio, Italy.
Turati won a total of five matches, including four in straight sets, over a span of six days en route to the title in Sezze. Her tournament was highlighted by an impressive 6-3, 6-3 victory against WTA-ranked No. 458 Sviatlana Pirazhenka (Belarus) in the round of 16.
The 2018 Big 12 Conference Player of the Year and one of four nominees for the Honda Sport Award for Tennis, she earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles All-America honors as a sophomore. Turati was the No. 1 overall seed in the singles draw at the NCAA Championship and completed the year at No. 3 in the final Oracle/ITA national singles rankings.
She posted a 28-4 overall singles record in her sophomore season. Turati spent nearly three months atop the ITA women's singles rankings and produced a 16-2 dual-match record for the Longhorns at the No. 1 singles position. Turati became the first Longhorn to top the ITA singles rankings since Kelly Pace in 1995.
With Turati atop the lineup, Texas posted its highest final team ranking (No. 6) since 2005. UT won its first outright Big 12 regular-season title since 2004 and its first Big 12 tournament title since 2013. The Longhorns advanced to the NCAA Championships Round of 16.
