Jase Febres records a career-high 23 points while hitting 7-of-9 three-pointers.
MANHATTAN, Kan. — Sophomore guard Jase Febres recorded a career-high 23 points, including a career-best 7-of-9 from three-point range, to lead The University of Texas Men's Basketball team to a 67-47 win at Kansas State (10-3, 0-1 Big 12) on Wednesday night at Bramlage Coliseum in the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams. Texas (9-4, 1-0 Big 12) converted 14-of-27 (.519) from three-point range as a team, including a 9-of-11 (.818) mark in the decisive second half.
The Longhorns assisted on 87 percent (20-23) of their made field goals. This marked UT's highest assist-to-field goal ratio of the season and the third time Texas has recorded at least 20 assists in a game this year.
Freshman forward Jaxson Hayes brought down a career-high 11 rebounds and fell just one point shy of notching his first collegiate double-double. Senior guard Kerwin Roach II scored added 10 points, four assists and three rebounds.
The Longhorns hit four consecutive three-pointers, including a pair by Febres, to build a 19-14 lead at the 9:37 mark of the first half. The UT defense held Kansas State to just three made field goals on its last 17 attempts (17.6 percent shooting over that span) to end the half. A steal and dunk by K-State's Cartier Diarra with just a second left cut the Texas lead to three (25-22) at the break.
Trailing 35-34 with 11:40 remaining in the contest, the Longhorns outscored the Wildcats by a 33-12 margin to close out the victory. Febres hit 5-of-5 from three-point range in the second half.

- Texas improved to 15-8 all-time in Big 12 Conference openers.
- The 20-point win marked UT's largest margin of victory in a Big 12 road contest in the Shaka Smart era (previous: 12, 62-50 at Oklahoma State on March 4, 2016). It is also the largest margin of victory by the Longhorns in a Big 12 road game since then-No. 3 Texas won 69-49 at No. 16 Texas A&M on Jan. 31, 2011.
- UT improved to 16-21 in the all-time series against K-State.
