Also competing in the Chengdu event are 3x3 national teams from Australia, host China, France, Japan, Mongolia, Netherlands and Ukraine.
The eight teams have been split into two groups of four for preliminary round play, and the USA on May 31 will open against France, before facing Australia and Mongolia. The medal round will take place June 1, and teams will be seeded based on preliminary round standings. The No. 1 team from each pool will earn a bye to the semifinals. The semifinal play-in games will feature A2 versus B3 and B2 will take on A3. The gold medal game will cap off the day's games.
The team was selected by the USA Basketball 3x3 National Team Selection Committee, which is comprised of USA Basketball Women's National Team director Carol Callan, USA Basketball Youth & Sport Development director Jay Demings, USA Basketball Men's National Team assistant director Samson Kayode, 2008 Olympic gold medalist and USA 3x3 team consultant Kara Lawson and 1997 USA Basketball National Coach of the Year Mo McHone, who has served on numerous USA Basketball coaching staffs from 1998-2018 and has coached in the NBA, NBA G League, Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and internationally in South Korea.
